Psalms 56:3-4, "When I am afraid, I trust in you. In God, whose word I praise,
in God I trust; I will not be afraid. What can mortal man do to me?" (NIV)

The other day we took our kitten, Sasha, to the veterinarian for her final booster
shot. The vet pronounced her physically fit, she received her booster, and all was well.
Once back home, Sasha and her two siblings curled
up for a nap while we headed off to work. We came home a few hours later to find Sasha
hunched down next to a pillow, trembling slightly. She turned and flopped,
acting generally skittish, completely opposite of her loving nature. Believing
her to be frightened, we began to pick
her up, only to be startled by her wild behavior.
She ran to hide and we began to panic.

After deciding to return to the veterinarian, we coaxed Sasha out of hiding. She came to
us in complete trust, would sit on our lap,
but became terrified at the slightest touch. She
loved us, trusted us, yet she was fearful.
There are times we feel this way about the Lord. We trust His goodness and His love,
yet are fearful of His power. Much like Sasha, we come to His call but are scared to
give Him our all.
|
Unfortunately, God cannot simply give us a shot to neutralize the fear,
as the veterinarian later did with Sasha. Instead, God works to neutralize our fear through
His faithfulness and His eternal promise.
Prayer: Dear Lord, help us to trust You. Teach us not to be fearful of Your almighty power.
Amen.
