Colossians 3:8, "But now you must rid yourselves of all such things as these: anger, rage, malice, slander, and filthy language from your lips."

"Only people too ignorant to know any better use such language." This was a favorite saying of my Poppy Joe. Poppy Joe was not a well educated man, as he had been forced to quit school after sixth grade to help support his family. He was a common man, a hard worker who struggled to make ends meet. I really wish others had heard his advice. It is amazing and disgusting how prevalent foul language is in our society today. Movies, television, and music are filled with curse words. Warnings and ratings are necessary to help parents and others determine to be alert to aspects of the entertainment world.
Christian ethics suggest that those who are faithful and true to Christ should put aside such language. A Christian's language should be pure of heart and appealing to God. We are told that we should not take the Lord's name in vain, yet it is combined with foul language to make some of today's most common off-color phrases. As true followers of Christ, we need to set aside such language and to become examples of a pure Christian servants.
Prayer: Almighty God, remove these foul words form our minds and cleanse our hearts of impurity. Grant us the wisdom to speak as You would desire. Amen.
